This course includes the following 7 units

Unit 1

The E CAGED Shape

We kick off with our E shape CAGED chord. This feels like the best place to start as it’s built from the root note on the E string, and is the most common chord of the CAGED chord system.

Unit 2

The D CAGED Shape

Next up is the D Shape CAGED chord. This is a very useful chord shape, both for songwriting and improvisation. As with all of our chords, we’ll start by learning it all in A minor, before changing keys later down the line.

Unit 3

The C CAGED Shape

This unit covers the C Shape CAGED chord. This is a very useful chord shape, both for songwriting and improvisation. As with all our chords, we’ll start by learning it all in A minor, before changing keys later down the line.!

Unit 4

The A CAGED Shape

This unit covers the A shape CAGED chord. This is the second shape that people tend to know very well, but we will be expanding it and learning it more deeply

Unit 5

The G CAGED Shape

Here we have the G shape CAGED chord. This is one of the least used shapes, but get it under your belt and you will love it! As with all our chords, we’ll start by learning it all in A minor, before changing keys later down the line.

Unit 6

All Shapes

It is now time to tackle all the shapes at the same time! This simply means that we will be choosing one part of the fretboard and working in that same position to bring in all the minor CAGED shapes.

Unit 7

Major & Minor

Now we will get to the ultimate application of everything we have learnt in this course and our previous major chord course.

Introduction

Complete your knowledge

Welcome to the Unlocking Minor CAGED course, the perfect follow-up to the "Unlocking Major CAGED" course. This intermediate guitar course comprises seven units that will complete your grasp of the versatile CAGED system. Contrary to common belief, this system isn't limited to chord shapes; it's the key to unlocking the entire fretboard with scales too! In this course, we seamlessly blend theory with practical application. Building upon the major CAGED system. We guide you through every position, covering chords, arpeggios, pentatonic and diatonic scales. Our structured daily exercises ensure this knowledge becomes second nature, enabling you to effortlessly navigate the fretboard.

I'm so excited to complete our study of the CAGED system and unlock the fretboard totally!

Real world application

Throughout the course, we use a custom-designed guitar gym backing track to reinforce your learning. It covers six keys, transitioning smoothly using the circle of fifths, in minor keys. This section allows you to systematically practice playing the chord, arpeggio, pentatonic, and diatonic scale over each key change. As you progress, we encourage creativity, guiding you in turning these concepts into improvised solos. Unit six consolidates these positions, teaching you how to solo within a specific neck area. Finally, unit seven merges the worlds of major and minor, offering a real-world song-based scenario to hone your skills. Get ready for practical, lasting knowledge that will enhance your guitar playing for years to come.
