As a long time student of modern metal, and a master of his art form, James is perfectly equipped to guide you through all the tools and skills you need to progress down this pathway. If you’re wondering what “modern metal” is, you can check out bands such Periphery, Architects as well as going back a few years, to bands like Trivium & Avenged Sevenfold. It’s polished, beautifully produced metal, with extended range guitars, that will push your technique to the limit!

During this course I am using a 7 string guitar, which I would recommend if you want to play in this genre, however, you can still do the majority of the playing with a low tuned 6 string! More on that later!

Course breakdown

James has skilfully crafted an epic modern metal track for you, which is the focus of the entire course. The track is over 10 years of knowledge, condensed into one masterpiece that you can learn. Starting with the rhythm, James talks about riffing, palm muting, percussive muting techniques & much more! Then, moving onto the lead James walks through how to massively increase your alternate picking speed, intervallic playing, hybrid picking & of course your sweep picking. In our final section, James also takes us on a detailed tour his gear, presets, Cubase project and tabbing work, giving you a 360 degree view of what it takes to write, record and produce modern metal.
