Unit 1

Essentials Part 1

We will be covering a lot of ground to make sure you are up to speed for intermediate guitar playing but our main focus will be looking at the 5 shapes of the pentatonic scale and how to move them into various different keys.

Unit 2

Essentials Part 2

We will be learning cool new techniques, applying them to a Zeppelin inspired rock riff and even learning linking patterns which will allow you to solo all the way across the neck! There is a lot of information to cover in this course, so take your time.

Unit 3

Essentials Part 3

We will be adding bends to your repertoire, learning how to link your patterns across the entire neck, and tackling the most challenging solo yet! The solo is a ZZ Top inspired track, so plenty of bending, vibrato and feel involved to make it sound great!

Unit 4

Essentials Part 4

We will be learning a cool spider exercise to help improve your speed and accuracy on the guitar, we will be learning new licks and getting them 'under your fingers' so you can improvise with them whilst understanding how to use them over any track.

Introduction

Fly up and down the fretboard

Welcome to our Lead Guitar Intermediate Level One course! Our primary goal in this course is to give you the confidence to play and improvise effortlessly across the entire fretboard. We do this by dividing the neck into the five pentatonic shapes. If you've explored our beginner courses, you'll already be familiar with the first two shapes. However, if you're jumping straight into this level, fear not - we'll provide a quick recap of those shapes before moving on to the new ones.

By the end of this course you'll be able to play lead guitar across the entire neck and in any key!

Dan Holton

Five shapes for the whole neck

The journey starts with an in-depth look at the five pentatonic shapes and, crucially, how to identify and utilize them in any key. This skill is fundamental as we aim to adapt the licks we learn into different keys and quickly locate them across the fretboard. We simplify this concept with an idea called 'airports'. As the course unfolds, we introduce an array of advanced techniques and guide you in applying your newfound skills. Dive into Led Zeppelin-inspired riffs, ZZ Top-inspired solos, and targeted exercises designed to enhance your speed and precision. By the end of this course you'll be able to play lead guitar across the entire neck and in any key, so next time someone says 'let's jam in the key of E flat minor' you'll be ready!
